How do I delete the default index.html page on my website?

Posted in

Unless you ordered a WordPress, Joomla or Drupal Hosting account each new web hosting account will have a default index.html page in the root directory (the public_html directory). Our WordPress, Drupal & Joomla hosting comes with those respective apps already pre-installed so there is no index.html file to delete.

Before you can upload your website or install WordPress or any other software this page has to be deleted. You can do this using an FTP client or the online file manager in your maXpanel control panel as follows:

1. In your maXpanel control panel on the main page click in ‘File Manager‘ icon.

Delete Default Index HTML Page - Step 1

2. Right click on the ‘public_html‘ folder.

Delete Default Index HTML Page - Step 2

3. Right click the ‘index.html‘ file and on the drop-down that opens click ‘Delete‘ and the index.html file is deleted.

Delete Default Index HTML Page - Step 3

4. And voila! You now have a clean public_html directory to install WordPress or any other software or upload a current website via FTP.
